August Home’s app was a proven hit for retro-fit smart locks and the app needed to evolve to accommodate controls for addition smart home products and capabilities. We needed to establish a design system that was globally accessible and easy to adopt.

Concurrent feature work alongside design system work presented an opportunity to validate the new components and patterns I was creating. This provided confidence in the direction and feasability of our developing system.

The essential building blocks of components and eventual templates screens for all app experiences. Collaborated with Engineering to apply useful naming conventions for design tokens.
The introduction of more devices required a clear system of imagery to represent the devices in different locations of the app and user flows. I ideated and produced illustrations with enough detail while maintaining simplicity conducive to complex UI.

The creation of not only an icon system but one that includes expanded set of devices newly operable from the app. This prepared the app experience for a expanded utilization and use cases.

Common components and patterns most prevalent in the app.
